Driving in the Country

This little tin building intrigues me.  I love the crooked wooden doors and the simple shape.  It is located next to a cow pasture.  I have always wanted to take a  picture, this one is okay. The building is actually quite small and quaint looking.  The building seems to shimmer in this photo, almost like it knew I was going to take a picture, so it had to look it's best.

Encased Recipe Cards

Arrozconpollo  have been collecting  and hoarding other women's recipes for years.  I am more fascinated with their handwriting than the actual recipe itself.  I  often wish I knew more about these woman.  This recipe is an exception.  She was a young white American girl raised in Panama over 80 years ago and she spoke perfect Spanish and English.  She told me that despite having a local cook the family never ate Panamanian food. I thought it was odd to find this recipe for arroz con pollo in her old recipe files.  I don't think it is authentic but who knows.

I learned about this technique from the Cloth Paper Scissors web site.  Recipe card is authentic but the photo is not. I encased her writing with vintage buttons and Milagros.  I love the key because it resembles a cross.  The vinyl is a bit slippery to work with but manageable.  I like the freedom of free style sewing and the little bits floating about.

This is a test post from flickr, a fancy photo sharing thing.

Grey and Rainy Day

Rainy_grey_day I generally love or appreciate all weather.  Even when it is grey and damp.  The only thing I don't like is not having enough light to do my embroidery.  I have two tea-towels for swaps due next month so I should get crackin'  This weather makes me want to take a nap instead.

Too Hot to Save Myself and My Garden

It has been triple digit weather here in the South.  I spend most of my time jumping from air conditioned vehicles to air conditioned buildings.   The last thing I want to do when I get home is garden.  Some of the weeds are as tall as the rose bushes and the various ivys are running rampant.  I think the neighbors are talking...  When I do get home all I want to do is spend time in my huge dark den on my computer perusing swaps or making lovely things for my partners.  This is not reality.  I need to do something important, like save small animals from getting hit by cars or rolling bandages for a worthy cause.  Someone help me!Den

Rain Rain Rain

Pray for our dear friends in Texas and other parts where they are getting too much rain. We in  Alabama however are lucky to have any rain at all.  Farmers are lamenting. I have not stewed one pot of decent peas all summer.  Two days ago the heavens surprised us with big showers.  My little frog rain gauge recorded six inches!  Today another surprise, a very light rain shower.  The type that you let your kids play in because there is no thunder and lightening.   Though I passed on the dancing part, (because I was busy carting my tropicals outside to waterDsc01608 ), my middle son could not resist.  He the soon to be big eleven year old who prefers baseball over anything in the world could not stop smiling, arms extended out in prayer form, turning round and round.  By the end of it he was soaked and dissapointed that the rain  had stopped.  Perhaps Mother Nature is practicing creative deprivation on my son.  As a soon to be pre-teen he needed to be reminded of the simple beauty of a rain shower.  Maybe next time he is watching t.v. or playing some gosh awful video game he will break for rain... a Mother can only dream.

Trashy Recipe Exchange "Cool Whip and Oreo Pie"

Blog_pic_3 It has been a long time since I started swapping and having fun with papers and ephemera.  I am not an artist but I love collage and thought this swap was a perfect way to get myself motivated. The  little Marie Antoinette reminds me of desserts, big hair, tea parties and cool whip.

Oh my gosh I am part of the blogging world!

Dsc01612_2 I have been admiring and enjoying reading other blogs, mainly through www.swap-bot.com and now (oh joy!) I have one of my very own. (MINE ALL MINE!). I am hooked on swap bot and want to start posting pictures of all my swaps. I did some light research consulted with my savvy twenty year old son and TA DA here I am! I plan on posting pictures of my home, garden and craft projects, sharing information about food and culture in my area, and maybe even commenting on serious subjects too.  My life is both serious and fun and mindless and cerebral. Welcome to Mi Vida Bonita!

I would like to thank Denise from www.TheHeartofTea.com for the lovely teacup from England. I was lucky enough to have her as my first swap partner. I am so glad to know her.  Check out her website she is an excellent and friendly authority on the art of tea.
